Golden Globe Noms Are Out
This year’s Golden Globe nominations are out. Since studios release their award hopefuls at the end of the year so they’re fresh in everyone’s head, it’s no surprise that the list is filled with movies that have been working the festivals but have yet to get a general release. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has a tendency to reward those who’ve put in an effort to win an award, so it’s not much of a surprise.
What will surprise many people, and possibly bring the Internet to a standstill, is that The Dark Knight only got one nomination. All the people who have been touting this as the most amazingly deep and important comic-book movie in history will be sadly disappointed to realize that no one really cares if you’re not part of the club.

Public Domain Movie Of The Week: The Stranger
What do you get when an innovative, egomaniacal director who makes movies that don’t make any money sets out to prove to everyone that he can work within the Hollywood system? You get Orson Welles’ The Stranger. It’s generally regarded as Welles’ most conventional offering, but that doesn’t mean it’s just a run-of-the-mill thriller.
Welles plays Franz Kindler, a Nazi war criminal hiding out in a small Connecticut town. Rather than just lie low and keep to himself, Kindler works as a history teacher and is about to marry the daughter of a Supreme Court judge. UN war crimes investigator Mr. Wilson (Edward G. Robinson) scours the globe in search of Kindler, until finally releasing and following one of Kindler’s associates. An intense game of cat-and-mouse ensues as Kindler does all he can to conceal his identity.

5 Incredible Debuts For Actors Turned Director
There are many reasons an actor may decide to step behind the lens. Maybe they’re a control freak or a raging egomaniac that can’t stand someone else telling them what to do. They might get the whole movie thing but can’t even believably play dead. Or maybe it’s just something they’ve always wanted to try. Once in a while they come up with something unique that stands out from the crowd.

News of the Atypical: Volume 1
Yep, this looks to be Michael Madsen’s directorial debut. His co-director, Bret Davidson, is a long time stunt man/stunt coordinator, crossing paths with Madsen several times over the years. Madsen will probably be remembered for the ear cutting ability on display in Reservoir Dogs, but while reading about him, it sounds like he’s always just on the verge of breaking through to the mainstream.
